Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 22: In a thrilling display, Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians (MI) matched the all-time record for consecutive T20 innings scoring 25 or more runs during his outstanding performance against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Yadav electrified the Wankhede Stadium with an impressive unbeaten 73, leading his team to a decisive 59-run victory over Delhi and securing their place in the playoffs.

This remarkable innings marked Yadav's 13th consecutive score of 25 or more in T20s, tying him with South Africa's Test captain Temba Bavuma for this notable achievement, and helped Mumbai post a formidable total of 180/5.

While Mumbai celebrated their success, Delhi became the first team in IPL history to miss the playoffs after starting the season with four consecutive wins. Mumbai effectively ended DC's winning streak with a dominant performance.

During Delhi's chase for the 181-run target, bowlers Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc, each claiming three wickets. Despite their efforts, Delhi struggled to pose a serious threat to the formidable five-time champions.

Mumbai's bowlers showcased their skill by dismissing Delhi for just 121 runs, marking the fifth time this season that MI has bowled out an opponent, while the rest of the teams combined have managed only seven such instances.

With seven matches left in the group stage, this marks the earliest point in IPL history that the four playoff teams have been determined. The previous record was set in 2011 when the playoff spots were finalized after the 67th match of a 70-match season.

Mumbai now joins Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings in the quest for the prestigious title. Upcoming group-stage matches will determine the final standings of these four teams before the playoffs.
